AUGUSTA — The Viles Arboretum will hold an organizational and information meeting Wednesday, April 4, for anyone interested in being involved with the Community Gardens Program.
The meeting will be from 5 to 6 p.m. in the visitors center, 153 Hospital St.
The arboretum offers a large array of garden plots for raising vegetables, herbs and flowers — one of the more popular initiatives.
The goal is for plots to be available for planting by May 15. Tasks that have to be completed by that date include garden tilling, plot layout, plot name assignment, stake and lining gardens and setting up the water tank and hoses.
The program is a great way to learn from others, trade seeds and plants and join in an activity where gardeners are able to meet and discuss their ideas, arboretum officials said.
The arboretum provides watering cans, mulch, water and hoses, some implements and the tilled garden plots. Located on 224 acres of fields, forests and wetlands, the Viles Arboretum offers an ever-changing selection of programs for the general public and for schools.
