Mar. 182018

AUGUSTA — The Children’s Center, 1 Alden Ave., has scheduled the 17th annual Chili-Chowder Challenge for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Augusta Armory, 179 Western Ave.
The event is the biggest, longest-lasting and most often imitated chili and chowder competition in Maine, according to organizers.

The fundraiser began when a group of agency supporters organized a fun event for kids and families to raise money for the programs at the Center.
The fun-filled, family-oriented event draws an enthusiastic crowd anxious to vote on their favorite chilies and chowders from 12 to 15 local restaurants and caterers.
In addition to the culinary competition, which allows local chefs to compete for recognition in several categories, the event includes children’s crafts, a silent auction and live music.
