AUBURN — Jonathan Carsley, Jennifer Cartmell and Roger Philippon will be guest speakers at upcoming meetings of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. at The Village Inn, 165 High St., unless otherwise noted.
Carsley, scheduled for March 29, is the music director at Lisbon High School and the director of the grade 4-5 Beginning Band at Lisbon Community School.
He has taught general music and chorus at both LCS and Philip W. Sugg Middle School. He completed his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Southern Maine School of Music, studying cabinet and oboe.
During this time, he was accepted into the intercollegiate band, participating in two European tours with the University Chamber Singers. Carsley attended the prestigious Hartt School of Music in Connecticut, earning a master’s degree in music education. He lives in Lewiston with his wife Dorothy and daughter Ava.
In a change of venue, Roger Philippon will be the guest speaker April 5 at Central Maine Community College, 1250 Turner St., in the conference room on the fourth floor of The Tower. Tours of the campus will be held directly following the luncheon, for which reservations are required (207-713.7045 by April 1).
A Lewiston native, Philippon, is dean of planning and public affairs at CMCC. He earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Maine and master’s degree in adult education from the University of Southern Maine.
He is a former Lewiston city councilor and planning board member, serving for many years as chairman of the advisory board for the Franco-American Collection at USM/L-A College.
Philippon and his wife, Celeste live in Lewiston and devote much time and energy to the Community Little Theater, where Philippon also serves on the board.
Jennifer Cartmell, manager of the local Big Brothers Big Sisters program, has served on numerous boards and committees, including positions as development, event and media relations coordinator for many non-profits on a pro bono basis — Sagadahoc Preservation, Habitat for Humanity, Universal Promise and Honor Flight Maine.
Cartmell brings event planning and marketing expertise to BBBS team with a strong advertising, talent agency, TV, radio and media-relations background.
She oversees management of BBBS events, such as the Bowl For Kids’ Sake in Lewiston May 9, 11 and 12 and Golf for Kids’ Sake, June 18mat Martdindale country club. She is also responsible for coordinating the agency’s school-based match supports in Lewiston-Auburn, working to strengthen and expand the existing programs and outreach. Since starting with BBBS of Mid-Maine, she has doubled the number of youth served in Androscoggin.
The organization’s mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong, enduring, professionally-supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better.
