Maine Architectural History presentations program hosted in Sidney

Mar. 132018

SIDNEY — The Sidney Historical Society will offer six weeks of free presentations, led by Dan Mitchell and covering five major architectural periods — 18th Century, Federal, Greek Revival, Victorian, Modern– from 5 to 7 p.m. beginning Tuesday, March 20, at the Grange, 2986 Middle Road.

Those who attend are greatly encouraged to enhance the class with experiences from their own homes.
Photos can be integrated into the slide presentations, and students are encouraged to share their own old house stories or problems. There will be more than 500 slides of central Maine examples, numerous hands-on artifacts (including vintage prints, periodicals, stereo views, tools and books), as well as general discussions of methods of construction, technology changes, style changes and the ideas behind them.
The Maine Architectural History presentations also will cover topics of restoration and historic preservation, as well as how to solve common old house problems. For more information, call 207-453-7472.
