AUGUSTA — The Winthrop High School boys basketball team finished another strong season with their appearance in post-season tournament play, making it to the semifinal game before losing to Hall-Dale.
The defending Class C South Champions had tourney wins over Madison and Boothbay.
The Boothbay semifinal win came from a strong fourth period. The come-from-behind win was led in great part by the three-point shooting of junior guard Jared McLaughlin. He sank three of his critical shots in the last period, helped along by the defensive play of his teammates and some great playmaking by the coach and players.
Ten seconds before the final buzzer McLaughlin hit the winning basket for a 61-60 victory over the Boothbay Seahawks. Cam Wood added 15 points for the team in a tough and sometimes tense battle with the Seahawks.
The Winthrop Ramblers lost to the Hall Dale Bulldogs in the South C Final Feb. 24 at the Augusta Civic Center. Winthrop’s final season record was 14-6.
