AUGUSTA–The Bureau of Employment Services at the Maine Department of Labor has announced the Augusta CareerCenter, along with programs for vocational rehabilitation and the Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired, are moving from 21 Enterprise Drive to 45 Commerce Drive.
Both locations are in the same complex of buildings off Civic Center Drive in north Augusta.
The move is an effort toward a more efficient and effective service-delivery model for job seekers and employers, and to reform the system in anticipation of potential federal budget cuts, the state Labor Department, which is also at 45 Commerce Drive, said.
“We are moving our Augusta CareerCenter from its current location on Enterprise Drive now that our lease contract is up, and consolidating it into space in the same business park where the Maine Department of Labor is located,” said Bureau of Employment Services Director Ed Upham. The move is expected to have limited disruption to service during the short transition, and no changes to staff or services to workers and employers upon reopening.
The CareerCenter will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, March 23, after which staff will begin moving. The new location will open for regular hours 8 a.m. Monday, March 26.
Mailing addresses, email addresses and phone numbers will remain the same.
The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program has said that the Kennebec Explorer public transportation route will include a stop at the new location and that the move will have minimal effect on their current route schedule.
CareerCenters, with 12 locations across the state, are part of the Maine Department of Labor, and provide employment and training services at no charge for Maine workers and businesses. Job Seekers can use the CareerCenter’s free resources to jumpstart their job search. CareerCenters assist employers with recruitment, training and workforce services and offer access to labor market Information. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
