OAKLAND — John Cariani’s “Almost, Maine” will be performed by the Messalonskee High School Players March 8 through 10.
With the Pine Tree State as a familiar backdrop, “Almost, Maine” has 11 short scenes, all occurring on the same cold evening in an imaginary town in Aroostook County.
The characters explore hope, love and loss as they look for light in the cold Northern winter.
Originally performed in Portland in 2004, “Almost, Maine” holds the record for most produced play in American high schools and the MHS Players are pleased to bring their Mainer authenticity to this charmingly local play, producers said in a news release.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 8 through 10, as well as 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the Messalonskee High School Performing Arts Center, 131 Messalonskee High Drive.
Dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. March 9 at the Empty Bowls fundraiser for the local food pantries; a portion of ticket proceeds for the show also will go to Empty Bowls. Tickets for the show are $5 for students and seniors; $8 for everyone else.
