AUGUSTA — The Maine State Museum will host a special technology program during school vacation week, Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, Feb. 23. Participants can the technology of World War I through codes, periscopes and planes. The sessions run each day from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m.. All activities are free with the price of museum admission.
Those attending will find out about the technology of World War I while moving through different stations that highlight what technology looked like in the trenches. Participants can try their hands at making the best flying paper airplane and test ways to improve upon their designs.
The museum will explore the contributions Native Americans made to coded communication, and participants may even create and try to decode secret messages.
Learn why periscopes were used and the science behind them with a fun helmet-identification game.
Explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) while traveling back through history and see how culture and science intersect.
