AUGUSTA — The Maine Municipal Association is launching the HoMEtown Careers campaign, aimed at attracting a new generation of workers to careers among its 485 Maine member municipalities, including a video featuring municipal officials from Augusta and Farmington.
With unemployment in the state at 3.5 percent, Maine towns and cities face a growing challenge filling a diverse range of jobs, including various roles in municipal government, police, fire/safety and medical personnel, the MMA said in a news release.
MMA’s campaign is designed to help stimulate applications for available jobs in Maine towns and cities by raising awareness of the many municipal careers available and their rewards: good pay, excellent benefits, job security, proximity to friends and family, quality of life, and the ability to contribute to one’s community.
The HoMEtown Careers campaign will target young adults and people of all ages looking to make career changes. The primary advertising vehicles will be digital and social media, linking to a landing page, MaineHometownCareers.org, with descriptions of common municipal jobs, selected job listings, and video interviews with eight up-and-coming municipal employees from across the state.
Those featured in the video inlcude Augusta Code Enforcment Officer Keegan Ballard and Manny Proctor of the Augusta Public Works Department. Ballard was previously Manchester code enforcment officer.
It also features Farmington Public Works Director Phil Hutchins.
Others in the video are Audra Caler-Bell, Camden town manager; Bangor police officer Dustin Dow; Lebanon Treasurer Jordan Miles; Emily Scully, South Portland city clerk; and Breeanna Zoidis, Biddeford firefighter and paramedic;
“We are excited to launch HoMEtown Careers,” said Stephen W. Gove, executive director of MMA. “I think people will be surprised and excited to learn what a variety of quality municipal careers can be found in their own hometowns.”
