UMA professor named Fulbright scholar for second time

AUGUSTA — Lisa Botshon, an English professor at the University of Maine at Augusta, has been named a Fulbright scholar, the second time she’s received the honor.
Botshon will travel to Portugal, where she will teach graduate and undergraduate classes at the University of Lisbon this semester. The award was announced by the U. S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Botshon is one of more than 800 U.S. citizens who will teach, conduct research and/or provide expertise abroad during the 2017-18 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement as well as record of service and demonstrated leadership in their respective fields.
While at the University of Lisbon, Botshon will be teaching a graduate class on the theories of graphic storytelling and an undergraduate class on North American popular culture. This is the second Fulbright recognition for Botshon; her first Fulbright fellowship was to Slovenia in 2009-2010. While there, she and the UMA Humanities Department developed a relationship with the University of Ljubljana that has continue to this day.
Other UMA Fulbright scholars include, professors Ellen Taylor (Slovenia), Brooks Stoddard (France), Mary Louis Davitt (Ukraine), Robert Kellerman (Latvia) and Wendy Hazard (now retired, Philippines). UMA hosted a Slovene Fulbright scholar in 2014.
