TURNER — Game designer and Lewiston native Tom Deschenes visited Turner Public Library on Jan. 12 to introduce his new game, “Quest for the Antidote” to library patrons and board gamers as a special guest of TPL’s monthly board game night.
Deschenes’ Quest for the Antidote, published in 2017 by Upper Deck Co., appeals to both game enthusiasts and families, with play designed for two to six players, ages 13 and up, the library said in a news release.
The game was played at multiple tables, with Deschenes simultaneously playing and answering questions from players.
Anthony Shostak, gaming enthusiast commented on the game’s increasing stakes play noting, “Tom’s game is fast-paced, fun, and simple to learn. We started off politely going about our quests, but, by the end when things were getting desperate, we started meddling with our competitors’ success, which made it all the more interesting.”
“Board games are incredibly popular right now, and we wanted to offer our gamers an opportunity to interact with the designer in the same way that we schedule book talks for our readers so they can interact with authors,” said Kelli Burnham, Turner Public Library director. “We’ve added a monthly game night to our regular events, and our patrons are really enjoying the variety of games and the opportunity to get together in a family-friendly environment.”
In response to a resurgence of interest in role-playing games after the hit television series, “Stranger Things,” TPL will hold a Dungeons and Dragons open play night for anyone from novice to Dungeon Master, at 6 p.m. on Feb. 22. Luke Lorrimer, Turner resident and D&D enthusiast, will facilitate the evening’s gaming. Ages 12 to adult are welcome, students under 14 will need a signed permission to attend without a parent or guardian.
