Maine Public Charter School Day to be held Jan. 22 in Hall of Flags

AUGUSTA — Maine’s nine public chartered schools will host Public Charter School day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22 in the Hall of Flags at the State House.
The free event is an opportunity to meet public charter school leaders and students, and to get accurate information about public chartered schools in Maine, organizers said.

Charter schools enroll 2,240 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Maine, in both traditional school buildings and online programs. They are open to students across the state, free to parents, have admission lotteries if requests exceed seats available. They are independently operated, innovative in programming, and accountable by contract for student learning and fiscal responsibility.

At the event will be representatives from the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences in Fairfield; Cornville Regional Charter School in Cornville and Skowhegan; Baxter Academy for Technology and Science in Portland; the Fiddlehead School for Arts and Sciences in Gray; the Harpswell Coastal Academy in Harpswell; Maine Connections Academy, an online chartered school with offices in South Portland; Maine Virtual Academy, an online school headquartered in Augusta; Acadia Academy in Lewiston, and Snow Pond Arts Academy in Sidney.
