AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is reminding those who plan to fish this winter to review new laws regarding open water and ice fishing rules that took effect Jan. 1
The 2018 open water and ice fishing laws can be reviewed online by visiting mefishwildlife.com/fishinglaws. A digital copy of the 2018 Open Water and Ice Fishing Law Book can be downloaded at the same web address to keep handy on a smart phone or tablet while outdoors.
To download the book, visit mefishwildlife.com/fishinglaws. For iPhones, on Safari, click the link for the PDF, tap on the first page when it opens, then tap “open” in iBooks. The file will be saved in the iBooks app. Find the website in Chrome and tap on the menu (three dots) on the right, then tap “download.” The file will be saved in the download app. Some Android users will also need to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader app.
It can also be saved on a computer and the needed pages printed out.
A limited number of printed copies of the 2018 Open Water and Fishing Law Book are also available from licensing agents throughout Maine. Fishing licenses can also be purchased at mefishing.com.
