AUGUSTA — The SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage & Hope) program of Catholic Charities believes that our seniors should receive honor and care with dignity and respect, especially during the last years of their life’s journey.
Since Maine leads the nation with the largest aging population, we have a huge challenge in front of us. In fact, without the love and support from family, friends, and caring people like you we couldn’t provide the support needed for our elderly. With your assistance in volunteering we can all make a difference in the life of a senior.
The mission of SEARCH is to enable vulnerable seniors, who are 60 years and older, to remain independent in their home and help create a long-term support system to meet their needs. SEARCH does this by providing caring volunteers who offer services such as telephone reassurance, companionship, socialization opportunities, and transportation support for their errands, doctor appointments, and grocery shopping. We really want to bring courage and hope to each senior in our Program.
When a senior receives support from a SEARCH volunteer, hope is restored. Some seniors have been challenged with the quandary of, “How am I going to get groceries and necessities?” Many seniors are very grateful for the assistance SEARCH volunteers provide with grocery shopping. They are at peace and do not feel the stress of that unresolved dilemma anymore.
Anyone can volunteer with us. Whether you are retired or working, single or married with a family, attending college or high school or out of school … SEARCH has opportunities for you. There are a variety of ways you can help. The one requirement is that you have a heart to serve and help people in need.
