AUBURN — Auburn Public Services Director Dan Goyette has announced several options for the disposal of Christmas trees.
The city won’t pick up Christmas trees, but Boy Scout Troop 121 will, on designated days. There are also dropoff locations available.
Boy Scouts will pick up the trees on Saturday, Jan. 6 and Sunday, Jan. 7, for a minimum donation of $5.
Money raised by the program goes to the troop’s scouting activities. Troop 121 was created to help give youth with special physical, mental and emotional challenges the opportunity for success in a safe scouting environment that builds character, encourages citizenship, teaches life skills and develops personal fitness.
To request pick-up, Auburn residents should send their $5 minimum donation no later than Jan. 3 to United Methodist Church, Attn: Boy Scout Troop 121, 439 Park Ave., Auburn ME 04210.
The troop will send participants a tag to attach to their tree. This is not a city-sponsored program. Trees should not be placed at the curb before Jan. 6. For more information about the program or Troop 121, call 207-783-0790.
City-sponsored dropoff locations are:
* Public Works Garage – 296 Gracelawn Road (behind the community sand shed)
* Mid-Maine Waste Action Corporation/MMWAC – Goldthwaite Road (Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon)
* Engine 2 Fire Station – 181 South Main St. (next to the community sandbox)
