Reeds Mill Church to hold annual Candlelight Christmas Service Dec. 17

Dec. 42017

MADRID TOWNSHIP — The historic Reeds Mill Church will hold its annual Candlelight Christmas Service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. The church is at 995 Reeds Mill Road.

The service will be led by Ginni Robie, who initiated the service in 2004 and has been leading it ever since.

“This church is perfect for a nostalgic trip to Christmas worship past,” said Robie in a news release. “Worshiping there is a very meaningful and holy experience.”

The church, known as The Church in the Wildwood, is the only church built in Madrid and remains as it was when erected — no water, no electricity, but with kerosene lamps and a great working wood stove.

A one-room building designed to hold about 100 people, the first service was 125 years ago, in December 1892.
Worshipers still gather in the church to celebrate the Christmas season, singing of favorite carols and reading the Christmas story.

All are welcome. For more information, call 207-639-2713, or visit www.reedsmillchurch.org.
