Loon Echo to host hike to Big Bald Peak at Pleasant Mountain

BRIDGTON — Grab your winter gear and join Loon Echo Land Trust staff for an ascent of Bald Peak Trail to Big Bald summit of Pleasant Mountain Preserve Saturday, Dec. 9, meeting at 8:45 a.m. at the Bald Peak parking area on Mountain Road; hike departure time is 9 a.m.

Along the way, hikers will explore an interesting geological feature known as the “needles eye,” and if conditions allow, will also visit Loon Echo’s newly acquired North Peak through a whimsical red pine woodland.

The itinerary for this challenging, four-hour adventure will follow the Northridge Trail to Sue’s Way Trail, and finish the loop back on Bald Peak Trail. Participants must bring proper gear for winter travel, water and plenty of snacks. Conditions may require snowshoes or traction devices; please check Loon Echo’s website and Facebook page for updates.
