LEWISTON – Two Auburn girls have turned their passion for animals into action with recent donations to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society.
Isabella Gendron, an eight-grader at St. Dominic Academy and Ella Purcell, a third-grader at Park Avenue Elementary School of Auburn, both made donations in October.
Isabella, on Oct. 28, presented the shelter with the donations from her community service project, a component of the Miss Holly Pageant held in Kennebunk.
Isabella organized the donation drive to collect pet food, all of which will help with the care of the thousands of unwanted animals the Humane Society helps each year, the shelter said in a news release.
On Oct. 23, Ella presented the shelter with a $26. Ella, a third-grade student at Park Avenue Elementary School, has a passion for animals and saved up her allowance to help with the care of the thousands of unwanted pets the Humane Society helps each year, the shelter said in the release.
The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, at 35 Strawberry Ave., provides a safe haven for more than 4,500 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area per year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations from individuals.
