Auburn’s Austin Associates gets mini-grant for workplace fitness

Nov. 62017

AUBURN — Austin Associates, P.A. has been awarded a Workplace Wellness mini-grant from Healthy Androscoggin and the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce that will be used to buy resistance bands to aid employee fitness.

Applications for grants in the $200 to $500 range were based on the funding organizations’ mission of creating a healthier community, and applications were evaluated on program description and structure, program successes, future goals, sustainability and how the applicant would use the grant funding. Austin Associates was presented its award at Healthy Androscoggin’s Annual Meeting on Nov. 2 at the Auburn Public Library.

The resistance bands will be part of predesigned fitness challenges provided by the wellness committee at Austin Associates. The committee feels strongly that if it is easier and more convenient for employees to exercise during their work day, they’ll not only complete the challenges, but enjoy them, according to a news release announcing the grant award.

“We are very excited to receive this grant,” said managing partner Phil Doucette. “In a busy work environment, it is easy to let our health and wellness end up on the back burner. Our wellness committee continues to come up with engaging and fun ways to remind us that it is always important to take a moment or two for ourselves.”
