LIVERMORE — The Rural Community Action Ministry is holding its annual Empty Bowls Supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Livermore Community Center, 31 Church St.
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about hunger and money for the group’s Hunger Prevention services. Empty Bowls events are held across the country in November. Each has a different approach, but the goal is the same – to increase the public’s knowledge about hunger in their local communities.
In Maine, 24 percent of children and 23 percent of senior citizens don’t have access to enough food, or their access to nutritionally adequate foods is limited.
“Food insecurity may reflect a household’s need to make trade-offs between important basic needs, such as housing or medical bills, and purchasing nutritionally adequate foods,” the group said in a news release.
RCAM has provided homelessness and hunger prevention services to rural Mainers since 1970. The entrance fee is $10, $25 for a family of five. All participants will select from an assortment of pottery bowls and choose from soups, salads, bread and desserts. There will also be a silent pottery auction.
