AUBURN — Local law enforcement agencies are taking part in the state’s drug take back and document shredding event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.
Lewiston and Aubrn area law enforcement taking part include the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn Police Department, Lewiston Police Department, Lisbon Police Department, Livermore Falls Police Department, and the Sabattus Police Department, in partnership with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, Healthy Androscoggin and AARP.
The public can drop off dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs with law enforcement, and, in partnership with AARP, drop off documents for shredding at the Lewiston site. Both services are free of charge.
The Drug Take Back Program is a national initiative that was formed through the DEA.
Locally, Healthy Androscoggin continues to partner with local law enforcement on the program, which organizers said is especially successful in Maine. When the Maine Sheriffs’ Association learned that the federal government was discontinuing the program, the MSA decided to continue it in the state, the news release said.

Auburn: Bedard Pharmacy 359 Minot Ave.
Lewiston: Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave.
Lisbon: Lisbon Police Department 300 Lisbon St.
Livermore Falls: Livermore Falls Police Department, 2 Main St.
Poland: Poland Town Office complex lot, 1231 Maine St.
Sabattus: Sabattus Police Department, 190 Middle Road
Turner: Turner Fire/Rescue Station, 19 General Turner Hill Road
