Norway library to host apple history, storytelling programs in October

NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library is hosting two Maine-based programs in October. A program on the history of Maine apples will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, with John P. Bunker from Super Chilly Farms.

Bunker is a founding member of Fedco Trees and the Maine Heritage Orchard, and has been preserving Maine apples for 40 years. Bunker will speak on the history of Maine apple orchards, the many varieties of apples (including the Black Oxford), as well as the future of apples in the state.

At 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, storyteller Jude Lamb will portrays her fourth great-grandmother, Eunice Lakeman Hoar, is based on a true family story passed down orally, then recorded in several small publications. Lamb has taken the story to the next level by researching and fleshing out the people and the times — the 1800s — and performing their story while dressed in period clothing. She hope that her story may inspire other to share their own family stories in creative ways. She lives with her husband in an old Maine farmhouse in Lamoine.

The 30-minute performance, designed for listeners from age 7 through adult, will be followed by a question and answer session. Both programs are free and open to the public.
