Charette remembered, honored by youth soccer mentoring program

OAKLAND — Messalonskee High School girls soccer held the second annual Shine On Saturday Sept. 9 to honor former teammate and friend, Cassidy Charette, by hosting a girls youth soccer mentoring day.
Charette was a leading Eagle mid-fielder and a youth mentor before she was killed in a hayride accident in October 2014.

The event, organized by varsity girls soccer coach Penny Stansfield and the varsity and junior varsity soccer teams, hosted local girls in grades pre-kindergarten to fifth grade for games, soccer drills and some playing time on the “big field” with high school players.
The young girls received a “Cassidy MESSO Strong” wristband that also earns them a “Shine On Snack” and recognition at girls home games this season.
