NORWAY — The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital be holding a breastfeeding class for new and experienced mothers Thursday, Sept. 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office Building, 193 Main St.
Gail Martel, R.N., a certified lactation consultant, will be leading the class, covering the facts of breastfeeding and helping to dispel the myths about it. Mothers will learn skills for successful breastfeeding, as some infants are born knowing what to do, and some need gentle coaching. Some mothers may take more naturally to breastfeeding, while others require more support. This class will discuss the support services available to breastfeeding mothers.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends and encourages breastfeeding for all babies, and the staff at The Family Birthplace will be there to assist. There is a $10 fee per couple, and pre-registration, with payment, is required. Classes are scheduled six times a year.
