Dead River Historical Society ice cream social is Sept. 3

STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society, 170 Main St., will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, offering a free ice cream social beginning at 1 p.m.
In addition to ice cream, some attendees might also enjoy a brownie a la mode, made and served by society volunteers.

Charlie Bruce will entertain with an afternoon of songs, like Jud Strunk’s “A Daisy a Day,” and classics from John Denver. He also takes requests. Peter Farnsworth will be playing his mandolin. The event is open to the public.
The Dead River Area Historical Society is open every weekend throughout July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment year-round. Displays include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, a church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families, and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.
