LEWISTON — Jerry Dewitt, veterans outreach specialist at Tri-County Mental Health Services, was named National AMVETS Department Commander of the Year at the annual National AMVETS Convention on Aug. 11.
Dewitt, who was part of a group of AMVETS members who who brought silhouettes from the Silhouette Project for viewing at the conference, is commander of the AMVETSs Department of Maine. Dewitt is a yearly attendee of the convention, which this year was held in Virginia and attended by hundreds of veterans. The Silhouette Project raises awareness of the struggles of veterans returning home from duty.
