NORWAY – Stephens Memorial Hospital is offering two Aug. 26 events at which participants can get outdoors and be active, and have fun at the same time.
Lorie Olson will lead a half-day kayak excursion on Witt Swamp and the surrounding area during the morning and early afternoon. Participants will learn some basic instruction and safety skills while also experiencing the natural beauty, tranquility and peacefulness of gliding on the water while kayaking. Those who attend should bring plenty of water, pack a lunch for a picnic, sun block, a hat and proper footwear.
The class is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, weather permitting, at Witt Swamp on Crockett Ridge Road. Particpants withouth kayaks will have to rent one (cost of rental is $39).
Those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground can join Olson in a sunset hike up the backside of Streaked Mountain. Not only will hikers enjoy a sunset, but also feel the true magic after dark, when the night sky comes alive with millions of twinkling stars. A headlight/flashlight is recommended.
This hike is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Ripley Medical Office Building parking lot, 193 Main St.
