LEWISTON — Community Credit Union recently presented the Greene Baptist Church food pantry with a check in the amount of $250. Located within the church at 102 Main St. the pantry provides food for between 85-95 families each month; also, approximately 25 Thanksgiving baskets are assembled and given out each November. The food pantry is open to residents of Greene on the first and third Thursday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m.
Community Credit Union participates in the Maine Credit Union League’s initiative known as the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. Maine Credit Unions have raised more than $7.2 million since 1990 to help end hunger in Maine. At the end of each year, 100% of the money raised by each individual participating credit union is given back to that credit union to be distributed to hunger organization in their community. In 2016, participating Maine Credit Unions raised a new record total of $674,000 for the Ending Hunger Campaign.
