TURNER — Kora Shrine of Lewiston will host the sixth annual Kora Kares for Kids Charity Rally Saturday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. at Twitchells Airport Field on Route 4. Kora invites all motorcycle, classic car, ATV and barbecue enthusiasts to join in for a day of fun and fellowship, rain or shine.
The event will get under way with a member’s breakfast and social gathering, from 8 to 10 a.m., providing an opportunity to meet with hospital patients and hear their success stories. Escorted motorcycle and ATV rides depart at 10 a.m., and all rides begin and end at Twitchell’s Airport.
Activities at the field — open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. — will include a live band, a barbecue competition sanctioned by the Northeast Barbecue Society, barbecued food, and a cornhole tournament. Admission to the field is free. Registration to participate in the ATV, motorcycle or classic car ride is required; although one may register on the day of the event beginning at 8 a.m., anyone interested in preregistering can visit www.korashriners.org. Early registration guarantees a tee shirt.
The rally is an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Shriners Hospital for Children. Although there is no admission fee, donations are encouraged.
Kora Shrine sponsors children from birth to 18 years-old, who will receive world class care, regardless of the family’s ability to pay. Over the last five years, thanks to generous supporters, the ride-in has donated more than $30,000 to Shriners Burn Hospital in Boston and Shriners Orthopedic Hospital in Springfield, Mass. In addition to providing care at no charge to the families, last year alone Kora Shrine assisted approximately 85 patients and families with transportation, overnight accommodations and local outreach clinics with funding of about $19,500.
