Kim, Kumar join MaineGeneral Alfond Center oncology department

AUGUSTA – Byung Kim, MD and Rachit Kumar, MD have joined MaineGeneral’s Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in the medical oncology department, the hospital announced. Specializing in oncology and hematology, they also see patients at the Alfond Center for Health.

Kim joins MaineGeneral after completing a hematology/oncology fellowship at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, R.I., an affiliated hospital of Boston University School of Medicine. Kumar joins MaineGeneral after completing a hematology/oncology fellowship at Georgetown University/MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Both doctors are certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, according to a news release from the hospital.
Kim and Kumar join a veteran team of oncologists and surgeons who work with cancer patients, the news release said. The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care opened 10 years ago, consolidating oncology services and dedicated staff in the region. More than 9,400 patients have been treated at the cancer center, the first cancer practice in the state to receive American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative certification.
