ROME — The Board of Selectmen and members of the public were welcomed to Pine Tree Camp on the shores of North Pond for a recent meeting and barbecue prepared by the staff at the camp.
The board and members of the public were guided on a tour of the camp, including recently upgraded guest cabins, accessible playground and the wheelchair-accessible tree house.
The camp serves individuals who have disabilities, both adults and children.
The board conducted its regular business meeting and was provided with an update from Pine Tree Camp Director Dawn Willard-Robinson. The event was an opportunity for members of the public to see what kind of an impact the camp has been having on individuals for more than 70 years.
In other town business at the meeting, the board voted to join other municipalities in signing a proclamation declaring September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Rome’s effort to help “Maine Go Gold” is in support of Team Hailey Hugs and all of the children and families affected by childhood cancer. This year and every year forward, September will be recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the town of Rome.
