Come out to play at the Monmouth Fair Aug. 2-5

MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Fair will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2, through Saturday, Aug. 5, at the fairgrounds, 75 Academy Road, providing fun for the whole family with bike drawings every day, a pedal tractor pull, frying pan toss, hay bale toss, “Beano” games and pig scrambles, to note just a few events. Tickets are $6 for ages 18 and older; $3 for ages six to 17 as well as for senior citizens 65 and older; under six attend free, as do senior citizens on Wednesday. There will be ample free parking available.

Challenge family and friends to meet you and beat you at the He Man/She Woman Course Friday night or the Backseat Driver’s Contests on Friday and Saturday. Rev your engines and prove you’re the best around at the Red Neck Truck Pull Saturday night.
Everyone, from any town, may exhibit their crafts, artwork, hobbies, needlework, farm produce, flowers, baking, or canning for ribbons and cash prizes. Frame that picture, water those tomatoes, finish that quilt, display your collection, or put the final touches on the new stool you made in the shop.
Jerky? Yes, this year’s special contests will include the best homemade jerky. The baking contests feature Toll House cookies for adults and blueberry muffins for kids. There will be a Scarecrow contest — old fashioned, high fashion, punk or pop — to scare the crows away. There will be a variety of additional contests for children and adults. Exhibition Hall entries will be accepted Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, and Wednesday morning, Aug. 2, before 10 a.m.
Make ice cream at the museum, pet the animals, weave on the community loom, watch the horse-, oxen-, mini tractor- and red neck-pulling, or head for the carnival rides. Live entertainment will be provided every night, and all of the standard fair food, exhibits and agricultural contests and displays are included.
