Organic farm tour set for Lewiston, Auburn officials July 10

Jul. 72017

AUBURN — Members of the Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn will attend a tour of Food Joy & South Auburn Organic Farm, hosted by farmer and Executive Director Karen Bolduc (who also chairs GFCLA). City Councilors and officials from the twin cities have also been invited to participate in the 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 10, program.

The event takes place at South Auburn Organic Farm, 310 Sopers Mill Road The GFCLA’s aim with the tour and others is to provide an opportunity to deepen collective understanding the L/A food system — including how to best provide support, by learning the challenges (and joys) of local people who produce the community’s food, according to a news release from the organization.

The event is also part of the GFCLA’s continued promotion of the L-A Community Food Charter. The charter was launched by the GFCLA last year to better define the area’s community food values and build support for a more sustainable local food system. The charter can be found on the GFCLA website, where community members are encouraged to endorse it and show their commitment to improving the local food system, the release said. The tour July 10 ends at 5:15, so members can attend a 5:30 p.m. Auburn City Council workshop tat includes an update on the study of the agricultural economy in Auburn.
