Sandy River Ramblers to play in Mount Vernon July 22

MOUNT VERNON — The Sandy River Ramblers, one of Maine’s premier Bluegrass bands, will perform in concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Mount Vernon Community Center, the scene of many Rambler concerts.
“We think of Mount Vernon as our home base,” says bandleader Stan Keach, who lives in Rome, about seven miles from the venue.

The Ramblers have a sizable local following.
The concert, like all of the band’s shows, will feature many original songs about Maine topics, including some crowd favorites like “Cry of the Loon,” “Slow Down (You’ll Hit a Moose),” “Trout On the Line” and “Boots From L. L. Bean_.”_ The band features the virtuoso banjo playing of Bud Godsoe; the flashy fiddling of Don LeBlance; the gorgeous lead and harmony singing of Julie Davenport and 15-year-old phenom Dana Reynolds, and Keach’s songwriting.
Maine writer and Mount Vernon resident George Smith has called the Ramblers’ “Cry of the Loon” CD “a gift to Mainers.”
A couple of surprise guest performers is a distinct possibility, noted the organizers. Refreshments will be available for sale at intermission. Donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, call (207) 397-2241.
