READFIELD — Back in the 1980’s, there were annual strawberry festivals held on the lawn of the Readfield Union Meeting House, 22 Church Road. The current UMH board of directors is reviving this fun summer activity starting Saturday, July 15, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Delicious strawberry shortcake made with local strawberries and topped with real whipped cream will be served for $5. This price includes a beverage of iced tea, lemonade or water. The shortcake being served will be accompanied by a simultaneous pie sale going. Whole pies, locally made, will be sold for as long as they last! Pie boxes will be provided to get these great desserts home safely. Strawberry jam and assorted gift baskets will be available for sale.
Raffle tickets for a handmade quilt titled “Stained Glass,” made by board member Joan Wiebe, will be available, and the drawing for the quilt will be Saturday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. during the Readfield Heritage Days Celebration.
This is a wonderful opportunity to get out, relax and enjoy the town of Readfield on a Saturday afternoon, noted the organizers. Visitors from out of town are always welcome. The Readfield Meeting House, which is on the National Registry of Historic Places, will be open to the public. Close by are the Readfield Trails people of all ages can enjoy by walking, running, jogging or biking.
