TURNER — Stacey Keniston, who teaches in School Administrative District 52, was named Maine Adult Education New Teacher of the Year. Keniston has been with the program for more than three years, teaching language arts and English as a second language.
Many of her students are not native English speakers and have struggled in American schools their entire lives, said a news release from MSAD 52, which includes Turner, Greene and Leeds. “Stacey works diligently to help them achieve their goals in grade level reading. Stacey’s focus is on differentiating lessons to meet individual needs as a fundamental part of her educational paradigm. “As a teacher of English language learners and other struggling readers, she identifies the academic standards required, but provides creative options for students to develop content mastery. By doing so, she helps her students get motivated and excited about learning.”
Keniston was also awarded a Maine Adult Education Association scholarship that will allow her to further her education and plans to earn her teaching English as a second language certification through an online program with Anaheim University. “We are very proud to have Stacey on our team.
