Minot Historical Society to host Civil War encampment, off road/lifted truck show

Jun. 262017

MINOT — The Minot Historical Society has two major events this summer that span 300 years of history. The society will host a Civil War encampment in July and a lifted/off road vehicle show in August. The Civil War encampment will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at 493 Center Minot Hill Road.

Those who attend can see what life was like for a typical soldier in camp during the Civil War, meet re-enactors and watch as they demonstrate common military drills, and pose for and buy a tintype photo. The Historical Society’s home, an 1830s parsonage, will be open for tours and lunch will be for sale. Period music will be performed by the Spruce Roosters.

Then for something different, the society will host a lifted truck and off-road vehicle show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Hemond’s Moto-Cross and Off-Road Park, 695 Woodman Hill Road.

On display will be lifted trucks, both street and off-road, as well as UTVs, ATVs, dirt bikes, off-road Jeeps, mudders and sleds. Vendors and vehicle clubs (both big and small, near and far) will be there to chat with as well. Already signed up for the event are A+ Diesels, which specializes in modified diesel trucks; 207 Diesels; Offroad Elements, a Jeep parts distributor from Massachusetts; and Central Maine 4×4 Off Road.

This event is a fundraiser for the historical society, which is raising money to help pay for its historic home on Center Minot Hill Road.

Registered show vehicle participants with ATVs, UTVs, trucks and Jeeps will be allowed to try out the new off-road trail system from 2 to 4 p.m. the day of teh event.

To register visit goo.gl/Ni4b2x (for vehicle) or goo.gl/pVUULb (for vendor/club).

A $10 tax-deductible donation will be collected day of the event from vendors; clubs and show vehicles enter for free.
