‘Places for Pollinators’ workshop to be held July 15

LEWISTON — The Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a “Places for Pollinators” workshop from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 15.

The workshop will be held in Greene, at the home of John and Pat Schott, 303 South River Road.
Presenter will be Deborah Perkins, of First Light Wildlife Habitats, a wildlife ecologist who partners with eco-minded landowners to create thriving wildlife habitats of any scale in their backyards, gardens, fields and farms, woods, campuses, according to a news release from the conservation district.

Perkins will discuss observing, identifying, and the ecology of, a variety of pollinators, as well as pollinator needs, environmental stressors and how property owners can create a high value habitat on their property.

The workshop will have a field component, so participants should bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, binoculars and a hand lens, if possible. Though all participants are welcome, please be aware that the ground may be uneven and could be difficult for some to navigate.

Workshop registration is $25 per person, non-refundable, and is due no later than Monday, July 10. Breakfast and coffee will be provided. The rain date is Sunday, July 16. There will be 2.0 credits available for Maine Board of Pest Control pesticide applicators.
