Hartford Community Church develops garden in memory of member

HARTFORD — The Hartford Community Church is developing a community garden in memory of church member Beulah Brown, who died this spring. The garden, which will be planted next year, will provide produce for the town’s food bank.

Brown was the longest standing member of the church, and her funeral drew an overflow crowd. In service to her memory, members of the Hartford Community Church are clearing land adjacent to the church for a community garden. So far, trees have been cut and are being harvested. This summer will include cutting and splitting wood for the Hartford wood bank, stump removal and excavation work.

Planting is scheduled for the spring of 2018 with fresh vegetables for the Hartford food bank shortly thereafter. The garden will be called Beulah Land — a reference to the 140-year-old hymn that was sung at her funeral at her request.

Church members invite the community to drive down Church Street “to witness the progress of this wonderful project.” The church is at 387 Church St.
