Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission invites fishing, hiking in July

AUBURN — The Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission is celebrating Parks and Recreation Month in July with lots of opportunities to get outside and enjoy natural spaces. Though bodily contact with the water in the lake cannot be allowed because of the potential for pathogen contamination, fishing from certain boats and along shore can be a rewarding way to enjoy the lake, the commission said in a news release.

In addition, the LAWPC holds nearly 2000 acres of forested property surrounding the lake, many with walking trails. The propery was bought to assure protection of drinking water, but it is accessible for low-impact recreation.

Whitman Spring Road is an easy two-mile stroll and walkers can even visit the site of the old Spring House Hotel along the Hotel Loop Trail. Because the land is now undeveloped, there is plenty of wildlife to see along the way.
