WINTHROP — Jean-Luc Theriault, Kennebec Land Trust’s stewardship director, and Howard Lake, a director of the land trust, will lead a hike on new trails at Mount Pisgah on Saturday, Aug. 12.
The hike will extend past the historic fire tower and continue along the ridgeline of Mount Pisgah on Phase One of the new trails funded by the 2017 Mount Pisgah Campaign.
“Mount Pisgah is a popular central Maine destination, where outdoor lovers can hike, collect blueberries, hunt, cross-country ​ski​ and snowmobile,” said Theresa Kerchner, executive director of the trust. “Expanding the Mount Pisgah Community Conservation Area only increases opportunities for residents and visitors alike.”
The Mount Pisgah Community Conservation Area in Winthrop and Wayne the trust’s largest property, covering 950 acres with two trails to the summit, a historic Maine fire service towe, and a recently cleared four-acre high-bush blueberry field. A campaing is underway to raise money that will allow the trust to add three new parcels totaling 158​ acres and featuring impressive ledges and vernal pools, to build a new trail along the Mount Pisgah Ridge, and to help maintain the current trail system. As of June 16, the campaign had raised $44,000 of a $145,000 goal.
The hike begins at 9 a.m. and is about four miles. Meet at the Mount Pisgah Community Conservation Area parking lot. For directions, visit www.tklt.org.
