Stellar Science with Maine Mineral and Gem Museum
Deborah Johnson, Education Outreach Coordinator at the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum, will present a series of science programs for grades 1-6. They are scheduled for early release days at 2:30 pm in the children’s room at Norway Memorial Library.
September 23: Talk Like a Pirate/Pyrite Day
Learn about the gold rush and fool’s gold. Is there gold in Maine? Real pirate history facts included for fun.
October 28: Autumn is not just for Halloween
Learn about the Day of the Dead. It sounds scary, but it isn’t, with the book El Día de los Muertos by Bob Banner. Fall days and cool nights are the perfect time to learn about rocks that glow in the dark. Let’s do some luminescent painting.
November 18: Aliens
Learn facts about the planet Mars and read a silly book, Life on Mars by Jon Agee. Get creative designing your own alien spacecraft.
December 16: Build a Rover
We know a lot about Mars because of Rovers. Hear the story, Curiosity by Markus Motom, and learn about all the different vehicles that travel the “red planet”. Then we’ll get the glue guns (and trash?) to build a model Rover.
