BATH, Maine – On Tuesday, July 7, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works will celebrate the start of construction of a new 972-space parking garage.
Once complete, the parking garage will be a major asset helping many shipbuilders park in closer proximity to the Bath shipyard. BIW is the state’s largest single-site employer.
The parking garage project will include creation of a publicly accessible plaza at the entrance to the BIW campus. The garage is one of a series of investments in the Washington Street corridor aimed at improving traffic flow, safety and the employees’ experience as they come to and depart from the shipyard, as well as improving the aesthetics of the area surrounding the shipyard.
Those delivering remarks or attending Tuesday’s event include BIW President Charls F. Krugh, Commander Michael Beautyman Jr. for the U.S. Navy and Bath City Council Chair Roo Dunn. Attendees include union leadership, representatives of Maine’s congressional delegation and state and local officials.

Attendees will not be entering the secure perimeter of the shipyard so will not need special badging to attend. However, please RSVP attendance by Monday, July 6, for planning purposes.
Note: For those seeking B-roll of construction equipment excavating the main lot, that work will take place between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, and will resume at about noon.
