Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club Champions Student Citizenship and Literacy at Lake Region Middle School

Dec. 242025

BRIDGTON – The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is proud to continue its support of Lake Region Middle School’s Citizen of the Month program, a collaborative initiative launched last school year by the Rotary Club’s Youth Committee and LRMS faculty. Each month, one student from each grade is recognized for consistently making thoughtful, respectful, and community-minded choices—earning the title of Good Citizen.
“The Rotary Club’s role is very simple,” said Rotarian Aaron Hagan, VP at Northeast Bank and a proud father of two students in schools in the Lakes Region. Aaron serves on the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club’s Youth Committee. “Each selected student receives a $25 gift certificate to Bridgton Books from the Club, encouraging literacy. Literacy is one of the core missions of our Club, set by Club President Dr. Lisa Ryan. We are proud to support several programs that promote literacy in schools in the Lakes Region.”
October 2025 Citizens of the Month

• 8th Grade – Lennon Smart-Damon
Lennon is a highly intelligent young woman who worries not only about herself but also about those around her. She shows up with a smile each day that is contagious and spreads to the rest of the class. Lennon has so much empathy and kindness and makes everyone’s day better.

• 7th Grade – Harper Russo
Harper is an exceptionally genuine individual and a hard worker who leads by ethical example. She possesses a powerful moral compass and is never afraid to stand up for it. Unlike a quiet leader, Harper vocalizes the difference between right and wrong. She consistently uses her voice to encourage and inspire her classmates to uphold their own standards and to do the right thing, making her a true force for positive influence in the classroom.

• 6th Grade – Briggs O’Connell
Briggs is an enthusiastic learner who excels in his schoolwork and class participation. He brings positivity and joy to every classroom with his big smile and the way he makes all students in a group feel included and valued. Briggs is actively involved in community and school activities such as soccer, basketball, baseball, Four Square, skiing, golfing, and drama. He is a great role model for our school and broader community. Briggs is the perfect recipient of a Rotary Club award based on creating a world that fosters community service and international cooperation.
The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club looks forward to celebrating these students each month and sharing their stories with the community.
The Club meets on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 7:30 AM at the Bridgton Alliance Church. Meetings often feature guest speakers and are free and open to the public.
