Buckfield-Neighborhood House Tours

BUCKFIELD – This past Thursday, the seventh graders from Buckfield Junior-Senior High School visited the Neighborhood House and Increase Robinson Library in East Sumner. Trustees of the house treated the students to a tour of the historical home and a school lesson in the library.

Students were given a tour of the building, chronicling some of the antique kitchen appliances, furniture and rooms throughout the structure. The student guessed what the antique appliances were used for and asked questions about the home’s history.

The School Marm led the students through a typical lesson for an early 1900’s school. The students were shown the library and at the end were given a molasses cookie as a gift for their attendance.

This is the second year the middle school students have visited the home/library/museum, and each time come away with new knowledge and appreciation for the historical structure that lies within their own town.

The neighborhood house is a remarkably well-preserved dwelling from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, highlighting the pioneering spirit and dedication to settling the area around the Nezinscot region. Gifted to the towns of Hartford and Sumner by the Robinson family, the Neighborhood House is a prime example of the historical significance of the area.
