TRAFFIC ALERT FOR AUBURN AND PART OF LEWISTON on JULY 24

TRAFFIC ALERT FOR AUBURN AND PART OF LEWISTON on JULY 24

Next week, motorists in Auburn will experience *extensive* traffic delays as a huge transformer moves through our city at a VERY slow rate of speed. Motorists are urged to pay close attention to alerts and detours and seek alternate routes whenever possible.

The first of 4 exceptionally large transformers will be moved through Auburn this coming Wednesday, July 24. The transport convoy will begin at around 8:00AM on Rodman Road and make its way onto Washington Street S, then Philomar Street, Washington Street N, Minot Avenue, Union Street, Center Street and onto the Veteran’s Bridge to Lewiston. Temporary road closures will take place along the route, and delays are expected to be significant. The trek through Auburn will last several hours.

This is an extremely large item, and the convoy will be moving at a “walking pace.”

NOTE: This will take place 3 more times over the next few weeks as the rest of the transformers are moved from Auburn to their destination. We will share details on our social media pages, website, and through our “AlertMe” notification system. Residents are invited to subscribe to receive City of Auburn alerts at auburnmaine.gov.

The Lewiston portion of the route is expected to be as follows: Left from the bridge/Russell Street onto College Street, left onto Merrill Street, right onto Main Street, then into the substation at 1653 Main Street.
