TURNER – Ken Finley of the Philip S. Bryant Memorial Post 111, American Legion, Turner ME, won the Prestigious Humanitarian Award. This award was announced on June 8, 2024, at the Department of Maine State Convention in Brewer, Maine.
“Criteria: Accomplishments of the individual must be over and above his or her usual vocation; in most cases, his/her deeds would not be in his/her chosen field of endeavor; but consideration would be given to someone whose activities in his/her field of work was far in excess of what one would expect in that field.”
One of our Post 111 members was told by the VA hospital in Togus, ME, that he needed emergency surgery at a hospital in Boston and needed to get there the next day. Ken had to go to Logan airport early the next morning. Since we did not know which hospital, Ken said to have him ready in the afternoon, and I’ll take him when I get back from Logan. The surgery was successful, preventing a serious condition from worsening.
