On May 3, 2024, Maine College of Health Professions (MCHP) conferred 87 degrees at its commencement ceremony at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland. Forty-eight Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, 19 Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology, four Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration, five Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging, and 11 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree earners, their friends and family celebrated at the event. Several graduating students received awards during the ceremony. Additionally, Kenneth Albert, RN, Esq., MCHP alumnus, trustee, and previous Board Chair, received the Dr. Pam Baker Service Award for his unwavering support of and dedication to the College’s success. MCHP President, Dr. Monika Bissell commented, “Ken has been a stalwart advocate and invaluable MCHP champion for the past 8 years. His contributions to our success are significant, and we couldn’t be more appreciative or proud of him. Through his work as Andwell CEO (formerly Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice) and volunteer endeavors, he is a living example of the MCHP mission to enrich lives.”
Graduates, friends, and family gathered with faculty, staff, administration, and honored dignitaries to celebrate commencement. MCHP President Dr. Bissell welcomed and commented, “Our absence of a graduation keynote speaker is intentional. We want to hear the words of our class leaders. Their stories of perseverance in earning these difficult and vital credentials are the most important perspective.” Providing reflections of the class were Kayla Adams, Heather Demeny, and Tiffany McElhearn.
To recognize students who demonstrate leadership qualities, display concern and understanding for others, make decisions and assume responsibility for their actions, and establish trust in their interactions with others, current MCHP Board Chair Ned Claxton, MD, presented the MCHP Board of Trustees Award to Heather Demeny, Andrew Kapocius, and Paul Turnquist. Dr. Bissell presented the MCHP President’s Awards for the senior students attaining the highest academic achievements to Amara Denis and Sadira Dulac. This award is given to the students with the highest GPA in each program of study.
