Rangeley Loppet
The Rangeley Loppet is a popular event that happens every March. Participants come from all over to race and see old friends. The Rangeley Lakes Trails Center hosted the event and did a great job despite challenges from the weather. Races were held on Saturday and Sunday for three categories: 36K, 18K, and 9K. In Saturday’s men’s 36K race, William Riley won by a small margin against Victor Sparks and Eske Ronneau. Lucy Hochschartner was the women’s 36K winner, with Agnes Macy coming in second and Francisca Feist in third place. The men’s 18K FS race had Walt Shepard in first, Jordi St. John second, and Jack Pierce in third place. In the men’s Burt Kettle classic, Anders Vikstrom won first place, with Joe Holland in second and Dyhan Nirmegh in third. Elizabeth Ransom took first place in the women’s Burt Kettle classic, with Valentine Desplat second. Vim Smith won the 10K classic men’s race, with Jerry Curico second. We also want to mention three young participants, Marco Lombardo, Peter Colianni, and Ben Hankens, for participating in the 18K race. Overall, the event was a success despite the unpredictable weather. Seeing so many people come together and enjoy the races was great. We look forward to next year’s Rangeley Loppet!
