Buckfield Fire Department Completes In-Service Training for Truck 2

BUCKFIELD – The town of Buckfield and the members of the Buckfield Fire Department announce the completion of in-service training for their newest fire apparatus, Truck 2. As of December 23rd, the recently acquired “quint” has responded to incidents according to Fire Chief Adam Dupile. The versatile 2005 E-ONE quint, originally from Portsmouth NH, was completely refurbished and increases the tactical services of Buckfield Fire by adding a 75-foot ladder. The apparatus is designed to strategically target water applications for residential structure fires, multi-story buildings, and commercial locations such as CF Well, Lowell Lumber, and Nezinscott Village. Truck 2 will also increase the safety of firefighters during chimney fires and for roof-venting activities on buildings with modern lightweight construction. In addition, the 500-pound “tip load” offered by the ladder will increase safety and efficiency for stabilizing and lifting during embankment rescues, and incidents involving other hazards such as the Nezinscott River.

Buckfield Truck 2 also has a 2000gmp pump capacity and carries 400 gallons of water, ground ladders, and stabilization and extrication equipment. Purchased new, Truck 2 would have cost a million to $1.2 million, but was secured and refurbished by Buckfield for $230,000.

Truck 2 is named in memory of Buckfield Firefighter, Captain Denny Bly, who lost his life last spring in a snowmobile accident. The apparatus also honors Captain Gene Bell, a former Chief of Buckfield Fire who also passed away in June of 2023. Firefighter Steve Bly, Denny’s father, notes; “Most citizens don’t realize how an apparatus like this adds to the firefighting capacity of Buckfield Fire. Truck 2 will serve the town of Buckfield and our region very well for many years”.
